Rajkot to get daily water supply now

RAJKOT: Citizens had given up all hope that they would ever get daily water supply from Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC). Despite sufficient rainfall since many years, they have had to be content with water supply every alternate day.

However, the ongoing spell of rains has spelt a bonanza for all. The civic body has decided to supply water for 20 minutes daily following fresh inflow of water into the dams. RMC on Thursday decided to lift the water cut that was imposed in the city for the last 10 months due to water scarcity.

According to mayor Raksha Boliya, the decision was taken on Thursday after evaluating the water situation in dams, which include Bhadar, Aji (1) and Nyari dam. Bhadar and Nyari dams are overflowing and Aji (1) dam is about to overflow. Lalpari and Randarda lakes are also overflowing on Thursday.

"We have decided to supply 20 minutes water daily in city in the wake of new inflow of water into dams. The 20 minutes water supply will be started from October 1,'' Boliya said.

In May, the city was heavily dependent on private tankers and residents had to shell out extra money every fortnight to get water. This has been situation for several years as the city does not have a proper distribution mechanism.

The water scarcity has nearly triggered water wars in the region with people often coming out on the roads.
