In an attempt to improve the Kerala Water Authority’s (KWA) relations with customers, a new section office was opened at Peroorkada on Wednesday, and five new tankers to supply water to various areas of the city were  flagged off by Water Resources Minister P J Joseph.

The new section office is meant to ease the burden of the Kowdiar water supply section, which is supposedly one of the largest in the state, catering to 38,000 customers with over 1,100 km of pipeline, from Vazhayila bridge to Poonthi Road and Nalanchira-Kurissadi to Mannamoola bridge, according to a KWA’s report.

The new section office at Peroorkada will offer its services to consumers residing in Peroorkada, Mannamoola, Vazhayila, Kudappanakkunnu, Mannanthala, Nalanchira, Muttada, Vayalikkada, Ambalamukku, Harveypuram, AKG Nagar and Indira Nagar regions, said KWA Chief Engineer P Sreekumaran Nair, reading out the report at the function.

An assistant engineer, two overseers, one meter inspector, and metre readers have been assigned to the new section office. This is as part of implementing the KWA’s new water connection guidelines, where the power of the assistant executive engineer to grant connections has been handed down to assistant engineers.

Apart from the new section office at Peroorkada, a new one is also coming up at Kazhakkoottam. In addition, a new sub-division will come up at Pongumoodu to ease the workload of the other sub-divisions under the Public Health (PH) division of the KWA and to minimise harassment of customers through delay in obtaining water connections and in accessing other services.
