Over 50,000 people likely to be affected as taps to go dry today

More than 50,000 people are likely to be affected as the supply of drinking water from Khamtarai water tank will remain affected on Monday evening and Tuesday morning owing to some pipeline extension works, said officers of Raipur Municipal Corporation.

Water supply to residents of Khamtarai, Bhanpuri, Fafadih will be affected as the repair works are expected to continue till Tuesday afternoon. The supply is likely to be restored by Tuesday evening. According to the officials, laying of pipeline is proposed near Narayan Hospital in Krishi Upaj Madni in Pandri under Nagar Nigam zone 2. Water department of the civic body will interconnect a pipeline from the main pipe. Because of this, the water of the Khamtarai will be drained out and the supply will be restored after the work is completed.

Commissioner of city zone 2 RK Dongre said the work will begin near Narayan Hospital in Pandri on Monday. The process of inter connection is likely to take hours and the water supply to the residents of Khamtarai, Bhanpuri, Fafadih will be affected for nearly 36 hours. The civic body estimates that over 50,000 people will be affected by the pipeline works.
