Nala desilting to be completed by April, says GHMC chief

HYDERABAD: Greater Hyderabad mayor Mohammed Majid Hussain directed officials to complete nala desilting works in the city before the onset of monsoon.

At the review meeting held on Wednesday, the mayor along with deputy mayor G Raj Kumar and GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar met with the floor leaders of all political parties and members of the standing committee on sanitation.

GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar said a schedule for taking up nala desilting works was being prepared. While estimates would be completed by January 15, tenders would be invited by January 20 and be finalised on February 10.

He said works would be taken up and completed by April 15, adding that they would be completed before the onset of the southwest monsoon. The mayor said Rs 50 lakhs would be sanctioned to each ward for taking up road repairs, including laying BT, CC roads covering internal colony roads and main roads and underground drainage. "Circulars have been already issued to all the executive engineers (EEs) on January 4, asking them to spend half the budget on main roads and another half on internal roads.

The mayor and commissioner announced an action plan for removal of debris circle-wise for seven days with five trips daily in connection with Milad-un-Nabi on January 14.

Regarding purchase of new sanitation vehicles, the commissioner said a letter has been sent to the government for sanctioning 48 vehicles, including 25-tonner dumper placers. On the request of the members, the commissioner has agreed to hire 30 Bob carts for the entire GHMC area.
