Your water cut up to 25% from May

If you think 15 per cent water cut is tough to handle, brace yourself — from May, the city is likely to face a 25 per cent cut. The recent pipe ruptures have led to a lot of wastage, and civic officials said the water cut has to be raised by another 10 per cent for supply to last until the monsoon sets in.

“The BMC supplies 2,900 million litre of water a day, but it won’t last up to July 15; supply has to be reduced to 2,500 in May,” a civic official said.

The city lost 8.6 million litres of water to the Tansa pipe burst, while the Malad tunnel, punctured in February, has still not been repaired.

Anil Diggikar, additional municipal commissioner, said water stocks would suffice for two-and-a-half to three months.
