Water back in most city taps

BANGALORE: Water supply to most parts of the city will resume on Sunday.

However, it will take the water board another four days to provide the normal level of supply and to reach all the households of the city.

According to the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) chief engineer T Venkatraju, all the 20 pumps at Torekadanahalli were started by 10.00 am on Sunday and it will take at least four hours to reach the city.

The water supply would resume to the remaining areas of the city after the ground level reservoirs in the respective areas get filled up.

“As most of the sumps would have dried, it will take sometime for the water to reach people who live in slightly higher areas. We should also have some water in the ground-level reservoirs to ensure that the water reaches these areas through gravity,” said Venkatraju. “It might take at least four to five days before all households start getting the normal quantity of water.” The breach in Shiva-anicut prompted the BWSSB to stop pumping water to the city on Thursday.

Though the breach was repaired by Saturday, the pumping of water from all the phases of Cauvery could be resumed only on Sunday morning.

The water supply was normal in some of the newly added areas of the city as the BWSSB supplies water to these areas through more than 5,000 borewells.
