Pune: Even as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has appealed the citizens to save water, the civic body is perhaps oblivious to the wastage of water in its own headquarters. Citing the issue as sheer negligence on the part of PMC, civic activists Vivek Velankar, Jugal Rathi and Vishwas Sahasrabuddhe said they checked the taps and urinals in the PMC headquarters and found leakages on a large scale.“The civic body has appealed to the citizens to save water. Sadly, it has forgotten to check its own home turf, where taps are leaking. Even in washrooms, water flows needlessly,” Velankar said. Recently, Congress MLA Vinayak Nihman had announced the launch of a free helpline (18002331555) on which people could call and ask for a plumber to fix their leaking taps and pipelines. According to the activists, they had contacted this toll-free number and asked the plumbers to send somebody to fix the leakages in the headquarters. A total of 100 plumbers have been appointed to act on the complaints received on the helpline.
