Rs.2.46 crore to tackle drought

The district administration has sanctioned a sum of Rs.2.46 crore to tackle drought-related issues in Wayanad district.

Speaking after a review meet on drought, chaired by Minister for Welfare of Scheduled Tribes and Youth Affairs P.K. Jayalakshmi here on Friday, District Collector K .Gopalakrishna Bhatt said the amount had sanctioned after considering the proposals submitted by the local bodies in the district.

The amount would be utilised to for distributing drinking water on tanker lorries, cleaning water sources, and augmenting depth of open wells, Mr. Bhatt said.

The meet also decided to submit a report to the Chief Minister during his visit scheduled for Saturday.

Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board receives 1.11 lakh applications for new connections this summer

BANGALORE: On one hand where citizens are irritated with the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) over bore well registration and water crisis, the board has successfully been able to receive 1,11,325 applications for new connections till March 2013. Sajala as the application is called to give out new connections in CMC areas.

During this period, 57,715 applications were received from various parts of the city which were added to the administration of BBMP. After verification, the board has ratified 51,870 connections to be rolled out.

Segregating further, the board issued 47,166 Sajala applications from Bangalore East division and 17,225 were sanctioned, of 24,101 applications issued in north division, 10,709 were sanctioned. West Bangalore was issued 15,559 applications but only 8261 got sanctioned, while South Bangalore will get 9,059 water connections only of the 13,065 applications issued.

Further in North-West division, 5629 water connections are approved off the 8687 applications issued, in South East division of the board, 987 households will be given water connections of the 2427 applications issued. Board officials said that a huge lot of applications which have been received from the ones issued in all divisions are yet to be scanned for approval.

No evening water supply in Chandigarh today

CHANDIGARH: Water supply to the city will be hit on Friday evening due to leakage in the main supply pipeline at the Kajauli water works. The main supply pipeline was damaged on Wednesday. A team of the MC's engineering wing on Thursday made arrangements to repair the leakage.

"Repair work will start in the morning, so Water supply will be hit in the evening," said a senior official of the MC's engineering wing. There will be normal supply in the morning at 9 am while evening supply from 5 to 9 pm will not be available.
