E-tender system launched in Coimbatore Corporation

Special Correspondent

Ten tenders were put on the website

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore Corporation launched on Saturday its online facility for its registered contractors to submit tenders for various development works.

Ten tenders for works costing over Rs.10 lakh were put on the website ( www.tntenders.gov.in). On accessing this page, one can find the latest invitations for tenders from various State Government agencies that run like a scroll under the head “Latest tenders”.

Any of the 171 registered contractors of the Coimbatore Corporation can click on the particular local body’s bid invitation. Using a login identity and a password given to them by the Corporation they can upload their tenders, Corporation Commissioner Anshul Mishra said after the launch of the facility.

Mayor R. Venkatachalam and officials of the Corporation were present at the launch and a discussion on the features of this facility.

“As per the guidelines from the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department, tenders for all the works costing above Rs.10 lakh should be submitted online,” the Commissioner said.

“This system is so transparent that it eliminates room for discrimination that is possible in the manual process. It promotes open competition. It is so secure that no official or rival contractor can see the bids. Only the bidder who uploads it can see because of the login identity and the password,” the Commissioner said.

The actual bidder could also get doubts clarified online and even add more details or issue corrections.

Officials of the Corporation, including the Commissioner, were also provided with a login identity and password. “I need to use these to access the site where I can publish the invitation of bids,” Mr. Mishra said.

The officials concerned with the tenders process in the Corporation and the contractors were trained on the use of this facility at the Tamil Nadu Institute of Urban Studies.

Women checking messages received on their mobile phones at a function organised by the Chennai Corporation to launch the system of sending SMS alerts on immunisation schedule for children, in Chennai on Saturday.

CHENNAI: Posters and graffiti will be banned on Dr. Radhakrishnan Road and Tiruvottiyur High Road from September 10. A similar ban, imposed by the Chennai Corporation, is in force on Anna Salai and Kamarajar Salai.

Addressing a function at the Kodambakkam Maternity Hospital of the civic body on Saturday, Mayor M. Subramanian said, “Corporation workers will start removing posters and cleaning the walls on Dr. Radhakrishnan Road and Tiruvottiyur High Road on September 9.

This is part of the city beautification drive and we will ensure that the walls remain free of posters.”

The civic body will initiate criminal action against those who deface the walls, he said.

Earlier, he inaugurated a system of sending SMS to women, informing them about the immunisation schedule for their babies. The text messages would be sent to mothers who had registered with the Corporation’s healthcare facilities.

Initiative

Around one lakh babies are born every year in the City Corporation limits and the system will be useful in timely immunisation, said Mr. Subramanian.

It was part of the e-governance initiative of the disease-tracking system installed by the civic body.

The system was the first such initiative by a Municipal Corporation in the country.

For those without a mobile phone, the message would be sent to the mobile phones of health workers covering their localities.
