Health camps for sanitary workers conducted

The Health Department conducted medical camps for 1,031 sanitary workers of village and town panchayats on Sunday.

The camps were conducted following instructions from District Collector Archana Patnaik.

According to S. Somasundaram, Deputy Director of Health Services, medical check was conducted in all the 47 primary health centres in the district.

Such camps were likely to be held periodically in the future, the Deputy Director said.

Corporation proposes to upgrade schools

The Coimbatore Corporation will soon send a proposal to the State Government seeking its permission to upgrade the middle school at Krishnapuram in Singanallur to a high school.

It has also sought the Government’s permission to upgrade the Maniakarampalayam High School to higher secondary school, Sanganoor, SIHS Colony and Ganapathy Ramakrishnapuram middle schools to high school and the Ganapathy and Weavers’ Colony primary schools to middle schools.

Resolution

The civic body had the Corporation Council pass the resolution at the Thursday’s Council meeting.

As for the Krishnapuram Middle School, Councillor ‘Singai’ Balan had sought the upgrade stating that in the absence of a high school in the area, the students of the Corporation’s middle school were forced to seek admission in private schools in the area.

At present the school had 345 students.

Classrooms

Mr. Balan had also stated that the school was ready for upgrade as the additional classrooms required for students of Classes VI to X were ready. He also sought payment of the upgrade fee – Rs. 1 lakh – from the Corporation’s education fund.

Fund

The Council said that for the upgrade of the other schools too, the civic body could pay the Government from its education fund.

Water supply to be disrupted

As Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. has proposed to take up inter-connection work on GST Road, there will be no piped water supply from 8 a.m. on Monday to 8 a.m. on Tuesday in the following areas according to a press release: Alandur, Adambakkam, Balaji Nagar, B.V. Nagar, Nanganallur, K.K. Nagar, Cantonment Board, OTA, Meenambakkam, Indian Air Force station, Pammal municipality, Anakaputhur, Pozhichalur panchayat, Cowl Bazaar panchayat, Munavar Avenue and Kannabiran Koil Street.

Members of the public are requested to store water, and may contact the following numbers for water tankers: Area Engineer XII at 8144930912, Assistant Engineer (Alandur) at 8144930365 and Junior Engineer (Water tankers) at 8144930315.
