Jaya Opens 8K Tenements Near Thoraipakkam

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday inaugurated 10,867 multi-storey tenements across the State, constructed at a cost of `441.50 crore. 

She also inaugurated drinking water projects in six districts established at a cost of `21 crore.

The 10,867 tenements include the 6,000 new multi-storey tenements at Ezhil Nagar Okkiyam Thoraippakkam built at a cost of `228.60 crore, another 2,048 tenements in Okkiyam Thoraippakkam built at a cost of `106.11 crore and the 628 tenements constructed in Nochi Nagar at a cost of `45.39 crore. The tenements located in other parts of the State are: Ammankulam (Coimbatore dt - 792 tenements), Machuvadi (Pudukottai municipality - 96 tenements), Santhaipettai (Pudukottai - 84 tenements), VOC Nagar (Tirunelveli - 207 tenements), Doraisingh Nagar (Tuticorin - 78 tenements), MGR Nagar (Namakkal - 342 tenements), Ezhil Nagar Part-II (Hosur - 192 tenements), Erumapalayam (Salem - 400 tenements) Each tenement is built in an area ranging from 270 sq.ft to 357 sq.ft and construction cost  ranges from `2 64 lakh to `7.23 lakh. The multi-storey tenements have all basic amenities apart from library, small shops, ration shops, borewell and parks.

The CM also inaugurated drinking water projects in six districts - Erode (Aappakudal), Tiruchy (Uppiliapuram) Tiruvannamalai (Anakkavur panchayat union), Kanchipuram (Kattankulathur Panchayat Union), Vellore (Valajah Panchayat Union) and Kanyakumari (Melpuram Panchayat Union) - set up at a cost of `21.47 crore.

Rs. 9.55-cr water supply scheme begins in Villupuram

A water supply scheme executed at a cost of Rs. 9.55 crore for Villupuram town was inaugurated by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa through video conferencing from the Secretariat in Chennai on Monday. With the commencement of the scheme a total of 95,439 residents of the town would get a supply of 90 litres per head per day. The Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department had sanctioned the fundsand Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board implemented it. Rural Industries Minister P. Mohan, District Collector V. Sampath and other officials were present.

A total of 180 houses constructed by the Slum Clearance Board at an estimate of Rs. 5.14 crore at Machuvadi and Sandaipettai here were declared open by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa through video conferencing. The houses have been allotted to the sanitary workers of the Pudukottai municipality and cobblers. District Collector C. Manoharan distributed sweets to those who had been allotted the houses.
