On February 1, the Chief Minister will visit the area to lay foundation stone of a hospital. On Wednesday the building branch team and tehbazaari team led a joint operation. More than 40 slums, temporary shops and other encroachments were removed.

Corporation wants status quo on panchayat land

Staff Reporter

The city Corporation has requested the Town Planning Department to maintain the status quo on land coming under panchayats that were recently added to the city Corporation area until the publication of the final master plan.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, Corporation Mayor K. Chandrika said that applying the draft master plan in these panchayats had adversely affected the common people who wanted to build small houses.

“When the draft master plan was published, we had requested the Town Planning Department to publish a version in Malayalam so that everyone could understand it. But they just published a shortened version of it in 10 pages without the survey numbers or other details,” she said.

Ms. Chandrika said areas such as Kattayikkonam and Mangottukonam were now marked for public institutions, Attipra and Kallingal were marked as strategic zones, and Kadakampally and Ulloor as tourism zones in the draft plan.

The draft master plan had been made applicable in all of these areas. Consequently, all construction activities in these areas had been frozen, she said.

The City Municipal Council (CMC) has written to the Hassan District Advocates’ Association asking it stop collecting parking fee from vehicle owners in the premises of the association building.

The CMC has also appealed to the public not to pay parking fee while parking on the building premises, terming the association’s act against the law.

The Hindu had carried a report on public opposition to the parking fee.

CMC Commissioner V.H. Krishnamurthy told The Hindu on Wednesday that he had written to the association office-bearers and to the administrative officer of the district court regarding the issue.

“The association cannot collect a fee for parking vehicles in a public place,” he said.

Appeal to public

Further, the commissioner said he had issued a public awareness notice through the media, appealing to them not to pay the parking fee.
