City corporation schools do an encore

CHENNAI: Braving all odds to prove that the civic bodyrun schools can also bring in excellent results year after year, the Chennai school children have secured a pass percentage of 85.33 in the SSLC examinations.

Just like the previous year when the Chennai schools improved their performance by three percent to reach 82.5 per cent pass, students this year too proved their mettle and registered three per cent increase.

While three girls shared the first place among the Chennai schools' Class X results, a boy stood second and again two girls shared the third spot in bringing laurels to the 322yearold Chennai Corporation.

The top spot was shared by three girls - S Ashpunisha, student of Chennai Girls Higher Secondary School, Saidapet, K Sangeetha, student of Chennai Girls Higher Secondary School, Nungambakkam, and K Krithika, student of Chennai Girls Higher Secondary School, Pulla Avenue, Shenoy Nagar, with 487 marks out of 500.

While S Arumugam of Chennai Higher Secondary School, Thiruvanmiyur, garnered the second spot with 486 marks, Vasantha Kumari of Chennai Girls Higher Secondary School, Saidapet, and J Vishnupriya of Chennai Higher Secondary School, Maduvinkarai, shared third place with 483 marks.

Adding feather to its cap, three Chennai schools produced centum results this year against only one school last year.

In a statement, Mayor M Subramanian who was away on a foreign trip greeted the Chennai school toppers.
