Training for city prinicpals begins
CHENNAI: A three-day training programme to raise the managerial and leadership qualities of head masters in the schools of Chennai has begun at the IIT, Madras, here on Wednesday.Inaugurating the programme Mayor M Subramanian said that the Chennai Corporation has earmarked Rs 7.5 lakh for the training to enhance the quality of teaching. “In 1995, the pass percentage in class 10 and 12 from Chennai Schools were just 50 per cent. But, different measures to improve quality of education over the past few years have boosted the pass percentage to 86 per cent last year,” Subramanian said.
He also disclosed that about 200 students selected from the Chennai Corporation’s Schools of Excellence are now being trained by FIIT-JEE to prepare for the IIT entrance exam.
