‘e-governance for accountability'

TIRUVARUR: The system of e-governance aimed at making government more accountable, transparent and effective, said M. Chandrasekaran, District Collector here on Monday.

Inaugurating a training programme for revenue and rural development personnel on e-governance under e-district programme, the collector said that it is also aimed at faster processing of public cases, appeals and grievances. Under this issue of certificates related to revenue, land, birth or death can be issued at the village level using computers.

E-district has been envisaged by the government as automation of workflow and internal process of district administration with the possibility of seamless integration of various services covered under the projects like certificates, public grievances, scholarships, utilities, dues and recoveries from land revenue perspective and elector and employment service, Mr. Chandrasekaran said. .

The state government has identified Tiruvarur, Krishnagiri, Coimbatore, Ariyalur and Peramblaur for implementation of pilot-e-district model. Traning is given to a total of 484 personnel belonging to revenue and Rural development on various aspects of e-district. The training will continue till January 2011 . The trainees will be given e-district orientation, that is overview of e-governance, e-district project, services covered under e-district project, roles and responsibilities of officials, typical workflow envisaged under selected services, expectations from stake holders, citizens, basic computer training, specialised computer training.
