Nine days after removing seals on three reconstructed stands at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai Corporation locked and sealed the stands again on Thursday.
Officials of Teynampet zone of the Corporation visited the premises at 11.30 a.m. and sealed the stands.
On May 12, the Corporation had sealed I, J and K stands, ahead of the last IPL match to be played in the city this season.
The move by the civic body followed a stay issued by the Supreme Court on an order passed by the Madras High Court on February 6. The High Court had set aside an order to seal the three stands.
Earlier this month, the State Public Works Department had cancelled the stadium’s structural soundness certificate.
On May 14, the Corporation removed the seals, after the Supreme Court granted a day’s reprieve and allowed the match to be held.
No planning permission
The three stands, which can hold over 12,000 spectators, are yet to get planning permission and building approval. “They will not be de-sealed till the case in the Supreme Court is disposed or planning permission is issued,” said an official of the Corporation.
