Municipality to build walls around quarry
The Thuvakudi municipality on Tuesday adopted a resolution to earmark Rs. 15 lakh from its own funds for construction of compound walls around some of the abandoned stone quarries. Responding to the emphasis of the district administration to safeguard public from abandoned stone quarries where accidental deaths due to drowning are being reported at periodic intervals, the municipality has so far spent Rs. 30 lakh for constructing protection walls around most of the quarries numbering more than 20, the Chairman of Thuvakudi Municipality E. Kayambu said. At the monthly meeting, the members also approved a resolution for accelerating the pace of drinking water supply, he said.
