Mayor talks tough

Asks officials to remove encroachments

Salem Mayor S. Soundappan has asked officials to remove encroachments that were impeding the progress of various project works being carried out at in Suramangalam Zone.

The cost of these projects is Rs. 35.71 crore.

A team comprising Commissioner M. Ashokan, Deputy Mayor M. Natesan, Councillors, Executive Engineer G. Kamaraj, and other officials inspected the works here on Friday.

A park is under construction at a cost of Rs. 10 lakh at Vijayaragavan Nagar, fish market at a cost of Rs. 1.05 crore at Suramangalam, and construction of an overhead tank at Palaniyappa Nagar.

A road work at a cost of Rs. 24.30 lakh is being carried out at Duraisamy Nagar while another road work at a cost of Rs. 18.30 lakh is carried out at Vandipettai.

It was found that eateries were functioning on the road apart from sheds constructed. Mr. Soundappan asked officials to remove the eateries and sheds and resume the road work.

Crematorium

The team inspected the works being carried at crematorium that is constructed at a cost of Rs. 1.30 crore at Shevapet. Mayor asked the engineers to expedite the works so that they were completed on time.
