Notification issued on deposit for new water connections

The Vellore Corporation has in a release stated that those who apply for new drinking water connections for residential purpose should remit a deposit of Rs.5,000 for water connection, Rs.2,600 for repair of cement road damaged while laying water pipelines, Rs.2,250 in the case of tar road or Rs.1,050 in the case of mud road.

As far as water connections for commercial use are concerned, an applicant has to pay Rs.10,000 for water connection, while the deposit for road repairs is the same as for residential category.

The Commissioner of the Corporation said in the release that if the Corporation detected illegal water connections, it would collect a fine of Rs.5,000 from the person concerned besides disconnecting the connection. Criminal action would be taken as per the Tamil Nadu Municipalities Act Rule 133 against those who have illegal connections.

Water connection would be disconnected without notice in the case of those who pump drinking water using electric motors. The building owner should not carry out any repair in the main line or distribution lines of the water supply system. Only one connection per building would be given. If the building owner extended the connection by laying additional pipelines, the connection would be disconnected without any notice. Taps should be compulsorily fitted in all water connections.

Consumers have been asked to pay water charges on fifth of every month. The connection would be disconnected if there is default in payment of water charges continuously for three months. They have also been asked to remit their property tax without arrears.
