Housing board renovates flats

Tamil Nadu Housing Board has taken up a major renovation work in all housing units in Thanjavur district.

Renovation is going on at New Housing unit and old housing unit in Thanjavur. Soon, works will be taken up at the housing flats on Tamil University campus in Thanjavur, housing units at Kumbakonam, and Pattukottai in Thanjavur district and Mannargudi housing unit in Tiruvarur district. Work is going on at Tiruvarur housing unit.

S. Ilango, Executive Engineer, Tamil Nadu Housing Board, told The Hindu that there are 294 flats under the Tamil Nadu Government Employees’ Rental Housing scheme in New Housing Unit in Thanjavur. Renovation is being done at a cost of Rs. 92 lakh. The old housing unit has 450 flats and renovation is going on at a cost of Rs. 74.5 lakh. There are 304 flats on Tamil University campus. They will be renovated soon at a cost of Rs. 46.5 lakh There are 132 flats in Kumbakonam housing unit and it will be renovated at a cost of Rs. 50 lakh. The renovation of 260 flats in Tiruvarur would be done at a cost of Rs. 55 lakh and the 132 flats in Mannargudi would entail an expenditure of Rs. 30 lakh.

The flats in Mayiladuthurai and Nagapattinam in Nagapattinam district would be taken up for renovation. “In total, Rs. 4.29 crore worth of works are taken up by the housing board. The aim is to put fresh tiles, PVC doors wherever necessary, plastering, painting, and make the houses comfortable for stay. Occupancy is always full in these housing units,” Mr. Ilangovan said.

Government employees who reside in new and old housing units in Thanjavur welcomed the renovation work of the housing board.
