Corporation nod to use last bay for flyover

The Vellore Corporation has given its approval to allow traffic flow on the proposed flyover to be constructed over the last bay at the Vellore Old Bus Stand here.

In order to ease the increasing traffic at the Christian Medical College and Hospital Junction here, the Highways Department has proposed the construction of a flyover from

Thottapalayam and had sent a letter to the Corporation on September 19 in this regard.

The flyover would be built via Palace Cafe Hotel and Mandi Street before passing the last bay of the Vellore Old Bus Stand to join the Anna Salai National Highway 234.

Officials said that the department has checked with the Corporation whether it had any objection to allow the vehicles on the proposed flyover.

Requesting to hand over the needed space without compensation, the letter noted that 6,000 sq metres along Mandi Street and 1,050 sq metres along the Old Bus Stand would be required for the purpose.

Land Transfer

A subject regarding the letter was mentioned in the list of resolutions at the recently held council meeting.

The resolution had noted that the Corporation would request the Highways Department to construct 20-feet long broad-service roads on either side of the flyover, when it passes near the shopping complex.

Regarding the issue of land transfer for the purpose, the Corporation has said that it would discuss the matter with the Commissioner of Municipal Administration before intimating the Highways Department in this regard.
