Civic body clarifies on fund allocation for dog care centre

The City Municipal Corporation has clarified that the government has sanctioned the amount for upgrading the dog care centre three months ago and not after the model code of conduct enforced in the district in view of the Yercaud by-election.

A report on ‘Sterlisation of stray dogs to be done five days a week’ was published in The Hindu dated November 15, 2013.

Quoting Corporation Commissioner M. Ashokan, the story said that the government has sanctioned Rs. 3 lakh to upgrade the facilities and the civic body had placed an order to purchase vehicles at a cost of Rs. 5.50 lakh to transport dogs.

A press release from the corporation clarified that the government has sanctioned the amount three months ago and not after the model code of conduct enforced in the district. While talking to the newspaper, the commissioner also referred to what was announced then.
