Building sealed for flouting plan norms

As part of efforts to check unauthorized constructions, Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) on Monday sealed a building at Ramnagar Extension in Madipakkam for violating various sections of the Town and Country Planning Act, 1971.

CMDA said that the owner in plot numbers 922 and 923 had obtained planning permission from the Commissioner of Ullagaram Puzhuthivakkam Third Grade Municipality on June 16 for construction of stilt floor plus first floor and second floor for tailoring units in the contiguous plots.

However, he completed stilt plus two floors plus third floor (part) commercial building as a single block amalgamating the two plots for commercial purpose.

A stop work notice was issued on June 26 but the work continued. As the owner failed to comply with the notice, the entire building on Bazaar Road was locked and sealed for violating sections 56 and 57 of the 1971 Act.
