The Corporation Council has decided to seek the State Government’s approval to construct a new Council Hall at Rs. 12.65 crore. A resolution passed at the Monday’s Council meeting said that the corporation had on July 24 passed a resolution to construct the hall at Rs. 9.70 crore. S.P.S. Associates, the contractor engaged for the purpose, had proposed the construction of a new Council Hall with modern amenities at Rs. 12.65 crore. The hall that would come up on the Corporation main office premises would accommodate the existing 100 councillors, officials, journalists, and members of the public. Adequate space would be left for further expansion.

Coimbatore Corporation will spend Rs. 60 lakh towards improving infrastructure in schools. A resolution passed on Monday said that the civic body would spend the money towards improving grounds in elementary schools and installing new play equipment.

In another resolution, the corporation said it would start five laboratories — one each a zone — to offer medical testing services at affordable cost to the city’s residents from lower economic background. To run the five centres it would hire contract workers, as decided at the Health Committee meeting.

The corporation would appoint a medical officer to monitor the functioning of the laboratories. The corporation would spend Rs. 12.25 lakh a centre to buy equipment. This would be a one-time investment. The recurring expenditure for each centre was Rs. 1.08 lakh.
