The AIADMK Councillors headed by Mayor Rajan Chellappa passed resolutions for tax reassessment for the commercial establishments owned by M K Alagiri and his family members in the city. 

A seven point resolution was passed in a meeting of AIADMK Councillors headed by Mayor V V Rajan Chellappa which was held in the Corporation here on Friday.

According to the resolution, Dhaya marriage hall spread over 7000 sq. ft. in TVS Nagar which was constructed during the DMK regime was so far charged with property tax of just Rs 7000 which is less than what it actually pay. The Councillors through a resolution urged for tax reassessment of the marriage hall.

Besides, another resolution also urged to change the 120 feet road in Surveyor colony to ‘A’ Section road for better tax collection which is now considered ‘D’ Section. The road accommodates several commercial establishments including Dhaya Park owned by family members of M K Alagiri. 

The councillors also passed resolution countering the former Union Minister M K Alagiri that Vaigai water supply scheme was introduced by the DMK.

“The Vaigai water supply scheme was initiated during the AIADMK regime when its founder M G Ramachandran was in power. Alagiri or the DMK must not have their claim on establishing the scheme.” Moreover, the second Vaigai water supply scheme was also initiated when J Jayalalithaa was chief minister, said the resolution.

“The Alagiri didn’t facilitate the construction of 13 toilets across Madurai city through central, state or MP fund, rather he it was constructed with the sponsors from private companies. And these companies were allowed to advertise in those toilets and the lavatory in the Government Rajaji Hospital was advertised by Gandhi Silks owned by Alagiri and family,” said the resolution.

After the AIADMK assumed power, the private companies stopped maintaining the toilets after Alagiri instigated them. As the toilets were in poor condition due to lack of maintenance, we have involved self help groups and differently abled to maintain them as per the directions of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, said the resolution.

The meeting also passed resolution thanking Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa for announcing the construction of four bridges in the city including two over Vaigai River. The Mayor ensured that several developmental schemes would be initiated in Madurai city by getting funds from the union government in the upcoming days.
