Government okays Rs 7 cr for sanitation work


COIMBATORE: The State government has approved the Rs 7-crore Coimbatore Corporation’s proposals for improvement of sanitation for the World Classical Tamil Conference. The works will commence soon and completed before April end.

The corporation had sent proposals such as improvement of public toilets at a cost of Rs 87.60 lakh, toilets at schools at Rs 50.75 lakh, provision of water facility within three km radius of the conference venue - Codissia at Rs 90.30 lakh and 60 mobile toilets at conference venue and roadsides at Rs 3.46 crore.

These apart, the corporation had sought approval for appointment of 315 sanitary workers on contract basis during conference days. The estimated expenditure for contract workers is Rs 35 lakh. Besides, the condition of corporation kalyanamandapams and community halls in important places would also be improved at about Rs 90 lakh.

The corporation council had approved the proposals by supporting a resolution regarding the sanitary conditions.

Mayor R Venkatachalam and Commissioner Anshul Mishra have asked the corporation’s health wing officials to be committed to carrying out the works related to hygiene.
