Contact numbers for health-related complaints

The Tiruchirapalli City Corporation has appealed to city residents to take precautionary measures to prevent outbreak of diseases during monsoon. The civic body has come out with contact numbers – 76395-33000 and 76395-66000 – for health-related complaints. The Corporation Commissioner, V.P. Thandapani, in a press release, said street plays were being conducted in various parts of the city to drive home the precautionary measures needed to prevent outbreak of diseases. The commissioner has appealed to residents to consume boiled water and avoid defecating in open places.

Residents have been asked to prevent the piling up of plastic cups, unused tyres, and other wastes to prevent mosquito breeding and check outbreak of dengue .

The civic body has also appealed to residents to desist from throwing plastic wastes in storm water drains and drainage channels to prevent water logging.

Mayor A. Jaya gave away plastic portable toilets meant for children to 65 parents under Tiruchirapalli City Corporation’s model scheme here on Monday. The toilets were distributed with a view to bringing in the thought in young minds that they should desist from defecating in open places. Corporation Commissioner V.P. Thandapani said parents should constantly train children in using portable toilets.

It was also the duty of parents to keep the children’s toilets clean, he said adding that their cooperation was important for the successful implementation of the scheme inaugurated in August.

Door-to-door campaign to destroy mosquito larvae

Municipal authorities conducted door-to-door campaign in several parts of Pudukottai town on Friday for ascertaining the level of mosquito menace and destroy mosquito larvae breeding in stagnant water in waste plastics and coconut shells.

They visited Usilamkulam and Gandhi Nagar areas and sensitised residents on preventive measures and the need to destroy larva at source.

The municipal authorities sprayed chemicals on water stored by residents in containers to check the growth of larva. Erratic supply of drinking water has forced residents to store water for days.

Led by S.A.S. Sait, Municipal Chairman (in-charge), they advised people to join the fight against dengue . The chairman inspected the fogging operations taken up in the areas.

Epidemic

J. Subramanian, Municipal Commissioner (in-charge), said the survey was conducted as part of the ‘cleanliness week’ programme launched in the town to prevent the outbreak of the epidemic during monsoon.
