New uniforms to sanitary workers

New uniforms worth Rs.16 lakhs were distributed to the corporation sanitary workers on the eve of Deepavali festival on Thursday. A. Jaya, Mayor, presided over the programme and gave away the new uniforms to 1,646 sanitary workers – men 891 and women 755 – employed in all the 65 wards of the Corporation. V. P. Thandapani, Corporation Commissioner, Asick Meera, Deputy Mayor, and their officials were present.

City Corp to distribute mosquito mosquito nets for poor 

 

Chennai: Chennai Corporation will start distributing mosquito nets in the city for the poor from next week, Mayor Saidai Duraisamy said here on thursday.

Early this year, the Corporation had decided to provide the nets to people residing near city's waterways as part of efforts to tackle the mosquito menace. This step is likely to benefit over 70,000 Below Poverty Line residents.

The Mayor said distribution of the nets would begin by next week.

 

Appropriate action has been taken against 23917 complaints received through e-mail, he added. Earlier, DMK councillors were evicted after the Speaker declined their plea to raise the reported prevalence of dengue in the city.

A dengue awareness programme for municipal councillors was conducted at the Municipal Council Hall here on Wednesday. Senthilvelan, deputy director, Health, Directorate of Municipal Administration, explained the ways of preventing dengue with the aid of videos.
