CHENNAI: Chennai Corporation plans to administer A(H1N1) flu vaccine at more locations in the city.

Officials said the locations would be decided in a few days.

At present, the civic body is administering the vaccines, at a subsidised rate, at six of its laboratories.

On Monday, a total of 2,800 persons were vaccinated at the six laboratories.

Initial delay

Initially, there was a delay in administering the vaccines due to shortage of supply.

However, the problem was rectified later. The civic body is charging Rs.100 for the vaccine administered in the form of nasal drops and Rs.200 for injections.

The six diagnostic laboratories administer the vaccines between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., the officials said.

CHENNAI: More than 300 persons were administered with A(H1N1) flu vaccine at the Chennai Corporation lab at Valluvar Kottam on Sunday.

Informing that the vaccine will be available in Saidapet, Choolai, Perambur, Thiruvanmiyur and on EVR High Road from Monday during a drive here, Mayor M Subramanian said that about 1 lakh posters on precautions, dos and donts on how individuals could protect themselves from getting swine flu would be distributed, the Mayor said.

The vaccine is already being administered at the King Institute of Preventive Medicine, Guindy.

However, after 10 deaths in the second wave of swine flu was reported recently, the State Health Department on Saturday decided to hold vaccination drives. While the intra-nasal spray is available at Rs150, the injection is available for Rs 250.

Jeslin Jacob, who came with her family for the vaccination said, “It is good that they have started the vaccination at different places rather than just the King’s Institute. It will also reduce the chances of contracting the flu, if the vaccination drives are at different places.”

Being a Sunday, the crowd was more as most people came to the lab with their wards.
