Mass cleaning camp, awareness programmes held

SALEM: A mass cleaning camp, awareness programmes and competitions marked the Local Administration Day celebrations in Salem on Sunday.

The civic administration conducted the mass cleaning camp in Maravaneri.

Over 250 sanitary workers carried out garbage and drainage cleaning works. Earthmovers were used to desilt a major drainage channel passing through the area.

The workers also distributed handbills carrying information on personal hygiene, mosquito control and environmental protection.

The civic body also organised a programme to distribute prizes to the winners of various competitions conducted as a part of the celebration.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor J. Rekha Priyadarshini promised that the civic body would initiate concerted efforts to implement the under ground drainage project and dedicated water supply scheme quickly.

The Corporation had approached the Central government to seek funds for the dedicated water supply scheme, she said. She said that the celebration was organised to improve the relationship among people, officials and elected representatives of the Corporation.

Later, the Mayor distributed prizes to the winners of the competitions.

She also distributed assistance to beneficiaries selected under various government schemes.

Earthmovers were used to desilt a major drainage channel passing through the area.

The workers also distributed handbills carrying information on personal hygiene, mosquito control and environmental protection.

These were to help the people prevent diseases and maintain good health.

The civic body also organised a programme to distribute prizes to the winners of various competitions conducted as a part of the celebration.

Corporation dental clinics from this month

More than 1,000 people took part in the special medical camp organised by the Corporation.


CHENNAI: New dental clinics and veterinary hospitals of the Chennai Corporation will begin functioning this month, said Mayor M.Subramanian.

Speaking at a function organised on Sunday to celebrate Local Administration Day, Mr. Subramanian said two dental clinics will start functioning in Tondiarpet and Saidapet.

The veterinary hospitals would be located in Ayanavaram and Nungambakkam.

Awareness on welfare schemes

The State government had directed the civic bodies to “celebrate Local Administration Day” on November 1. The event also focussed on creation of awareness on welfare schemes by the civic body.

The civic body also brought out wall posters and banners about its performance.

More than 1,000 people took part in the special medical camp organised by the Corporation.

Around 50 doctors, technicians and sanitary workers took part in the camp.

An exhibition on dengue, malaria, swine flu and tuberculosis was also organised. Corporation Commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni took part.
