Private lands to be acquired for road widening

EASING CONGESTION: Traffic flow on Burkit Road-Venkatnarayana Road junction is expected to be smooth after road widening.

CHENNAI: The Chennai Corporation will acquire private land in various locations to widen 12 roads as part of the measures to ease traffic congestion. The Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department recently issued orders permitting acquisition of small areas of private land along the roads.

According to government orders two pieces of land totalling 936 sq ft would be acquired under the provisions of the Tamil Nadu Land Acquisition Act, 1894, near the Burkit Road-Venkatnarayana Road junction in T.Nagar.

The Corporation would have to pay a compensation of Rs.53.46 lakh for the two pieces of land. The larger piece of land measuring 922 sq ft is worth Rs.36.88 lakh, according to the G.O. The G.Os also are for acquisition of private lands at a cost of Rs.1.22 crore on Harrington Road, Rs.48.12 lakh on Mahalingapuram Road, Rs.73.62 lakh on the road linking Vinayakapuram 2nd and 3rd Streets, Rs.25.54 lakh on Madhavaram High Road and Rs.42.70 lakh on Valuvar Kottam High Road.
