Mayor launches drive to re-lay bad roads

CHENNAI: Mayor M Subramanian on Wednesday launched a massive drive to re-lay roads and finish pending roadwork before monsoon on a war-footing basis.

Inaugurating the drive at Valluvar Kottam here, Subramanian said that the civic body would spend Rs 7.50 crore for relaying and repairing the battered roads. The Corporation so far identified as many as 314 battered bus route roads in the city, he added.

To ensure early completion of the project, the corporation has appointed 10 superintending engineers as the nodal officers for the massive operation. Within 10 days the identified worn out roads will be repaired and the civic body workers and contractors would work round-the-clock to repair the battered roads.

And for the first time, the Corporation website will keep the public posted on the road repair works being taken up in their locality, Subramanian added.

Thiruvottiyur High Road, Cemetery Road, NSC Bose Road, Paper Mills Road, Bharathi Salai, Valluvar Kottam High Road, Gandhi Irwin Road, Velachery High Road, Anna Nagar Second and Third Avenue, Pallavan Salai, G N Chetty Road, Usman Road, Nelson Manickam Road, Gandhi Mandapam Road, Sardar Patel Road, Kodambakkam High Road, Ashok Pillar Road, Muthulakshmi Salai and Dr Ambedkar College Road are among the prominent roads that have been identified for repairing, the Mayor added.
