WAITING FOR FACELIFT: Triplicane High Road is one of the bus route roads where repair works are to be undertaken shortly.

CHENNAI: Chennai Corporation will carry out repair works on 100 bus route roads across the city with funds from the State government, Mayor M. Subramanian announced on Tuesday.

Addressing the Corporation Council meeting, he said: “The stretches of bus route roads that are damaged have been identified. The work will begin after December 15.”

Rough patches measuring over 4 lakh sq m were identified for the purpose before the onset of the north east monsoon, but the civic body was able to complete work on only 20 per cent of them.

According to the civic body, the repair of the roads is estimated to cost at least Rs.60 crore. Over 130 bus route roads in the city are damaged and 100 of them that require immediate attention would be selected by the government shortly for undertaking repair work.

The roads identified by the civic body require complete re-laying. Road cuts made by the utility service providers and the recent rains have been cited as reasons for the poor condition of roads.
