The scheme road that will connect the Chokkampudur Road with Thadagam Road is likely to be a reality soon, as the Coimbatore Corporation will place a proposal before the Council in the ensuing meeting.

According to Commissioner T.K. Ponnusamy, the civic body will propose to the Council to fix guideline value as the rate to be paid to the owners of the six-and-a-half cents to be acquired for linking the two roads.

Once the Council approves the same, the Corporation will forward the proposal to the District Revenue Officer (Land Acquisition), who will then initiate the necessary action and fix the final land price. And once that is done, the Corporation will pay the landowners from the Local Planning Authority fund to take up the road work. The Corporation, in taking up the scheme road, was confronted with an issue regarding the ownership of the land to be acquired.

To start with the Corporation was under the impression that it had to acquire 13 cents of land to make the road a reality. Then the Corporation realised that the title deed of the land to be acquired was erroneous and that it was in its name.

Revenue records

After some spade work, the Corporation officials said that they would have to pay for only six-and-a-half of the 13 cents identified, as the revenue records revealed that the remaining land had been shown as road.

The officials said that they could not pay for the six-and-a-half cents shown as road. This is one of the scheme roads the Corporation has been trying to lay for quite sometime, as it will reduce the traffic congestion at Gandhi Park, on Telugu Street, Karuppa Gounder Street and Vysial Street. The Corporation announced the scheme road in the 2012-13 Budget.
