Staff Reporter

SALEM: The Salem Corporation has intensified the tax collection exercise in the city. All the seven computerised tax collection centres in the city will remain open all days including Saturday and Sundays till March 31.

The civic body operates computerised centres at Sooramangalam, Hasthampatti, Ammapet, Kondalampatti, Arisipalayam, Appuchetti Street and Kitchipalayam. The four mobile tax collection vehicles will be sent to all the parts in the city to speed up the tax collection.

The civic body had also decided to give importance for collecting tax arrears pending for long. Officials were asked to take door-to-door exercise to improve the tax collection.

Inspecting the tax collection exercise here on Wednesday, Corporation Commissioner K.S. Palasanisamy appealed to the people in the city to pay the taxes without fail. The civic body required more funds to finance its development projects including the dedicated drinking water supply scheme, he said.

People could approach any of the tax collection centres to clear their doubts regarding the taxes.
