Water tank works inspected

Special Correspondent

TIRUCHI: Mayor S.Sujatha and Corporation Commissioner T.T.Balsamy inspected the progress of the renovation works on the overhead drinking water tank at Marakkadai in the city on Tuesday.

The renovation has been taken up at a cost of Rs.66 lakh as seepage was reported in the 30-year-old structure. The tank with a capacity of 30 lakh litres, has two segments. It caters to residents in eight wards, including 12, 14, 16, 17,18, 19, 20 and 21.

Initially, renovation has been taken up in one of the segment. Repairs on the second segment would be taken up subsequently.

However, the work has been taken up without affecting the regular drinking water supply.

Arrangements have been made to ensure water supply by direct pumping of water to distribution mains.

Ms.Sujatha along with city engineer S.Raja Mohamed and executive engineer R.Chandran inspected the works on Tuesday.
