Mayor to attend climate meeting

Chennai, May 23: Chennai mayor M. Subramanian will participa-te in the World Mayors’ Conference on Climate Change to be held in Germany from May 28. About 80 mayors across the globe are to participate in the conference to work out strategies for metropolises to fight global warming.
Chennai is an active member of the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI), which studies city-level energy consumption patterns, emission trends and its implications.
The city is part of the international council with which 52 major cities across South Asia have enrolled to adopt measures on low carbon emission practices.
The Germany conference is the second international meet that Mr Subramanian will be attending after the Copenhagen Climate Cha-nge Summit.
Officials said the conference, to be funded by the World Bank Institute, will culminate on May 30.
