Draft poll roll for Chennai to be out on July 1
CHENNAI: Following an intensive voter verification drive, the Chennai district elections office will release the draft electoral roll for 16 Assembly constituencies on July 1. Voters can file claims and objections from July 1 to July 16.
The draft rolls will be on display at all polling stations, post offices and zonal offices of the corporation. Those who have completed 18 years as on January 1, 2010, can file applications for inclusion of names. To ensure complete coverage of voters, the offices will be kept open on Saturday and Sunday.
Form 6 is for inclusion of names, form 7 for deletions, form 8 for corrections of names and photographs and form 8A for change of address in the same constituency. In form 6 and 8A, the previous addresses have to be filled in and proof of the new address has to be attached.
Authorities will accept forms submitted by applicants or their family and not bulk applications by an outsider. The forms will not be accepted after July 16 and the final electoral roll will be published on September 15.
