Ambattur councillors launch sit-in demonstration

CHENNAI: A group of councillors led by Ambattur Municipality chairman K.N.Sekar launched a sit-in demonstration on Monday demanding speeding up of various developmental works.
The councillors complained that roads dug up for providing underground drainage and water supply networks remain neglected. Mr.Sekar blamed the officials for the postponement of the council meeting last month. There was also discrepancy with regard to property tax arrears.
However, officials said that they had even prepared the agenda for the council meeting last month, but it could not be conducted due to lack of cooperation from the councillors. Most of the developmental works were progressing as scheduled, the officials added.
