COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore Corporation appointed recently 47 persons on compassionate grounds to fill up various posts.

These included 22 conservancy workers and 14 unskilled workers.

With this, the Corporation said it had so far recruited 279 persons on compassionate grounds.

Totally, 165 conservancy workers had been appointed under compassionate grounds from May 13, 2006 to October 30 this year.

The Corporation said it wanted to ensure adequate number of conservancy workers across the city so that garbage removal was prompt. In the direct recruitment mode, the civic body appointed 842 workers during this period.

With the Government lifting the ban on recruitment, the Corporation appointed 90 junior assistant-cum-typists , a measure that was persistently demanded by Councillors.
