Contempt case: Metrowater boss appears in HC

CHENNAI: Municipal Administration secretary Ashok Vardhan Shetty and chairman and managing director of Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board Rajesh Lakhoni on Monday appeared before the First Bench of the Madras High Court in connection with a contempt application seeking to punish them for not complying with its earlier orders.

Alleging that the authorities concerned had not taken seriously the interim orders passed on various earlier occasions by the Bench on the issue of elimination of manual clearing of sewage lines, A Narayanan, a social Worker in Virugambakkan, had filed the contempt application.

When the matter came up on November 24 before the Bench comprising Chief Justice M Y Eqbal and Justice T S Sivagnanam, it directed the duo to appear before them on December 6 and file affidavits justifying their inaction on carrying out the orders.

Accordingly, the two officers appeared before the bench and filed affidavits on Monday.

The bench adjourned the matter by four weeks.
