Buildings to switch off lights

Chennai, Sept. 7: The lights in ab-out 2,000 corporation bui-ldings, including Ripon Buildings, corporation parks and schools would be switched off for nine minutes on September 9 as part of the ‘99999’ global warming awareness campaign, mayor M. Subramanian said on Monday.

Speaking to reporters, Mr Subramanian said that the idea was to support the NGOs that campaign for global warming. The civic body had identified 313 schools and 1,500 parks, where lights would be switched off for nine minutes.

The corporation, in association with Exnora International, will also conduct a series of awareness campaigns.

Besides, a special event on global warming would be held in the Ripon Buildings on Wednesday, in which 99 celebrities from different walks of life would participate, he added.
