Now, birth and death certificates to record time
Birth and death certificates issued by the Chennai Corporation will soon record the time.
The Chennai Corporation council on Friday decided to tweak the software to facilitate changes in the format of the birth and death certificates online. The birth and death registry and certificates issued by the Chennai Corporation will record the time of such events after the new format is readied.
Mayor Saidai S. Duraisamy said the decision had been taken following requests from residents for inclusion of the time of birth and death in addition to other details.
The Chennai Corporation’s health department with the support of the EDP Cell and a private firm will begin work on coding for the new format.
The
changed format is likely to be made mandatory for new certificates. The
civic body, however, has not specified what will happen to birth and
death certificates issued earlier. In 2008, the civic body introduced
downloading of birth and death certificates online.
