When idlis sold like hot cakes

The budget canteens opened in the city on Sunday witnessed a good sale of idlis for breakfast on Monday. Around 9,930 ‘idlis’ were sold on a single day in all the 10 canteens put together. Response for curd rice and sambar rice was good as well, according to Corporation authorities.

Around 2,780 persons bought curd rice and Rs.8,340 was collected in the canteens in the afternoon on Monday. Sambar rice had 3,568 takers and Rs.17, 840 was collected. Mr.Chellappa said that the total collection for the day was Rs.36,110.

Mayor V.V.Rajan Chellappa who inspected the canteen at Tirupparankundram here claimed that the budget canteen concept was well received by the public. He said that each idli is priced at one rupee while sambar rice sold at Rs.5.

The rate fixed for curd rice is Rs.3.

He tasted food at the canteen and instructed the staff to maintain quality and hygiene every day.

The budget canteens were opened at Aarapalayam, Anaiyur, K.Pudur, Gandhipuram, Ramarayar Mandapam, New Ramnad Road, C.M.R.Road, Periyar Bus Stand (Melavasal), Thirupparankundram and Palanganatham.

Yasodha Mani, City Health Officer, and A. Devadoss, Assistant Commissioner, accompanied the Mayor.
