Catering and hotel management students of Hindusthan College of Arts and Science, on Friday, cleaned the Coimbatore Corporation Zoo.

According to sources, close to 100 students thoroughly cleaned the zoo removing garbage and filth, clearing bushes and other unwanted materials from 8am to 3pm. They attended a talk session on ‘Tourism and Water’, this year’s theme for World Tourism Day, which fell on September 27, along with few school students. The zoo authorities had put out information boards highlighting the need for conserving water.

As part of the World Tourism Day celebrations, the Department of Tourism held several programmes. District Tourist Officer P. Vijayakumar said that a rally was taken out around Racecourse by students of Government Arts College. A seminar on the topic ‘youth and responsible tourism’ was held later in the day at the college. Prizes were distributed to the winners of intercollegiate contests. A total of 83 students took part in the competitions such as poster and brochure making and quiz contests.
