MCR to take decision on garbage collection charges after six months

TDP, Congress floor leaders seek exemption for poor people

Rajahmundry: The council meeting of Municipal Corporation of Rajahmundry (MCR) has decided to take a decision on garbage collection charges after observing the system for six months.

The council, which met under the chairmanship of Mayor Adireddy Veeraraghavamma, passed many resolutions including Led lighting, renewal of trade licences and so on.

Commissioner K. Manikraj said contract of garbage collection was given to Healthy House Services a few months back for six months and response from people in most of the areas was good. It has been proposed to collect Rs. 8 per household after six months and presently the entire amount of Rs.7.20 lakhs from 90,000 households was being paid by the corporation.

Varre Srinivas, TDP floor leader and Polu Vijayalakshmi, Congress floor leader said it was difficult for poor and below povertyline people to pay the charges for garbage collection. G. Madhavi, I. Srinivas, Deputy Mayor Satyanarayana Prasad and others participated in the discussion.

The council took up debate on Led lighting in the entire city and the contract was awarded to Iperian Green Energy (India) Ltd. Replying to queries from members, the Commissioner said the monthly bill of street lighting was used to be around Rs.19.44 lakhs and after erecting the Led lighting system the expenditure had come down to Rs.17.64 lakhs.

Website launched

MLA Rowthu Suryaprakasa Rao and Mayor Adireddy Veeraraghavamma had launched the website of the Municipal Corporation during the council meeting. He appreciated the efforts of the Commissioner in designing the website.
