Mumbai team interacts with Corporation officials

A team from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation was at the Coimbatore Corporation on Monday to learn about the solid waste management initiatives.

A release said that the team led by Chairperson of the Health Committee Geeta Ajai Gawli interacted with the Coimbatore Corporation team that was led by Mayor S.M. Velusamy, Commissioner G. Latha and Deputy Commissioner S. Sivarasu.

The Coimbatore team told about them about the zero waste management initiatives.

The Mumbai team then visited the Seethalakshmi Maternity Home on Krishnasamy Road.

‘Pay property tax dues and arrears’

Tiruchirapalli City Corporation has urged all government departments to pay their property tax dues and arrears before the end of the financial year.

At a review meeting with officials of the departments concerned here on Thursday, V.P.Thandapani, Corporation Commissioner, said government departments owed the civic body about Rs. 9 crore by way of current property tax demand and arrears. Of this, just Rs. 1.63 crore had been realised so far this year, leaving an outstanding dues of Rs. 8.21 crore.

Of the total water charges dues of Rs. 2.39 crore, only Rs. 1.08 crore had been realised.

The civic body was working towards achieving cent per cent tax collection and the entire tax dues had to be remitted before March 31, he said.

Salem Corporation Commissioner takes charge

K.R. Selvaraj took charge as the new City Municipal Corporation Commissioner here on Thursday.

Mr. Selvaraj had already served as commissioner in Erode, Vellore, Tiruchy and Tirupur corporations before moving to Salem. He succeeds M. Ashokan, who was transferred and posted as Commissioner of Tirupur Municipal Corporation. After assuming office, he called on Mayor S. Soundappan and Deputy Mayor M. Natesan. He held meeting with senior officials and discussed the status of projects implemented and challenging issues. With the waste treatment plant in Chettichavadi non-functional, a huge task lie before the corporation to dispose the 280 metric tonne garbage everyday.
