The BJP which is the ruling party in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Paalike (BBMP) council, had recently announced the plan to construct underground multi-tiered parking lots at several places including Freedom Park.

Congress leader in the BBMP council M. Nagaraj told reporters that the BJP had failed to obtain legal opinion on the subject and would be violating the Karnataka Municipal Corporation (KMC) Act 1976 if it went ahead with the project.

He claimed that the BJP was also trying to get mega BBMP projects transferred to the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) before the formation of the standing committees to avoid opposition from corporators.

“Until the standing committees are formed, we will not let them approve the resolution. The public have to be taken into confidence before the BBMP goes ahead with any such project,” he said.
