Renovated Panagal Park opened


CHENNAI: Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin inaugurated the renovated Panagal Park here besides 84 other facilities, at a function on Sunday.

Chennai Corporation has completed 84 development works in 10 zones at Rs 20 crore.

These include 35 noon meal centres (Rs 5.7 crore), 11 gyms (Rs 2.5 crore), eight parks (Rs 3.96 crore), infrastructure for hospitals (Rs 3.79 crore), five school buildings (Rs 1.2 crore), two open-air auditoriums (Rs 23 lakh), a playground (Rs 7 lakh) and a canine sterilisation centre (Rs 30 lakh). The Panagal Park was refurbished at Rs 1.30 crore.

Later, Stalin told reporters that a new park in front of the Koyambedu bus terminus built at Rs 2 crore in addition to other facilities has been thrown open to the public.

“In the last three and a half years, the corporation has refurbished 200 parks (excluding 300 roadside parks) with the support of the government, ” he said and added that renovation work was on in Natesan and Anna Tower parks apart from 50 small parks at Rs 15 crore.
