CHENNAI: The Chennai Corporation on Wednesday demolished two structures on its properties on Walltax Road to reclaim them following the expiry of the lease period.

Officials of the civic body said the properties were occupied by commercial establishments.

The area of demolished buildings was 600 sq. ft each. The decision to retrieve the lands was taken as the lease period had expired over three decades ago.

Besides business establishments, a few residential buildings have also come up on the Corporation lands spread over nearly two-km stretch of the road between the subway near the Central Railway Station and Moolakothalam, the officials said.

The civic body had carried out similar operation about two weeks ago and pulled down two other buildings.

On the traders' complaint about the demolition without prior intimation, officials said notices were issued twice.
